14 Degrees visited Exotic India in April 2008 with a special promotional touring team as a Cricket Carnival corporate and cultural exchange initiative.
The team was made up of 14 Degrees' managed first class players, Damien Wright (Victorian Bushrangers) and Rhett Lockyear (Tasmanian Tigers), talented emerging junior players, Chris Ashby and Akshay Nichkawde, the Founders of 14 Degrees, and other experienced players drawn from Australian corporate and tourism organisations interested in establishing connections in India.
Matches were played against stiff competition in hot conditions in Delhi, Jaipur (the beautiful Pink City) and Bangalore. Opposing teams included many Ranji Trophy players (Pura Cup equivalent), and as part of the tour, the team visited the majestic Taj Mahal and took in many other exotic sights and sounds.
A lucky few visited an IPL match in Delhi, where Damien and Rhett even invited themselves into an interview with Indian TV, while an even luckier few watched close by as the Bangalore Royal Challenger Cheerleaders went through a photo shoot!
The team enjoyed staying at the heart of Indian Cricket, including at the Future Cricket Academy in Jaipur, and at the National Cricket Academy, Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Damien Wright starred with the bat, while emerging leg-spinner Chris Ashby starred with the ball, and proved very handy with the bat as well.
Each of the opposing teams was incredibly hospitable and a great time was had by all, including previous and new visitors to the magic that is India.
